Privacy Policy

palim helps you save what you read on the web and turn it into review material. This page explains exactly what data the extension and web app handle, where it goes, and what we never do with it.

What we collect

We only store what is needed to run the product for you:

  • Account: your email address and Google account id when you sign in with Google. We never see your Google password.
  • Content you save: the text you highlight or type, an optional title, the page URL and page title, tags, AI-generated flashcards, and your review history (ratings and schedule).
  • Context around a highlight: when you capture or translate a selection, the sentence or paragraph surrounding it is captured so translations and explanations can match the context. It is stored with the clip and used only for that purpose.
  • Usage metadata: for each AI request we log which feature was used, the model, whether it succeeded, and how long it took - never the text sent or the result.
  • Optional images: if you attach an image to a clip, the file is stored on Cloudflare R2; our database keeps only a reference.

AI processing

When you translate, explain, or generate flashcards, the selected text - together with its surrounding context and the page title - is sent to an AI provider (OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic) to produce the result. The result is shown to you and, when you save it, stored in your library. We do not use your content to train models, and our usage logs never contain the text itself.

Where your data lives

Clips, tags, flashcards, and review history are stored in our database. Sign-in tokens are kept in your browser's storage on your device. If you use the extension without signing in, clips are saved only on your device (in the browser's local database) until you sign in and sync them.

Anki export stays on your machine

Exporting to Anki runs entirely in your browser, talking to AnkiConnect on your own computer. Your Anki collection never passes through our servers; we only record that an export happened and whether it succeeded.

What we never do

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not show ads or use third-party advertising trackers.
  • We do not read pages you visit - the extension only handles text you explicitly select or save.

Retention and deletion

You can edit or delete any clip, tag, or flashcard at any time; deletion is immediate. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at the address below and we will remove it.
